The first one to intruduce the Australian cattle dog to Sweden was Birgitta Östergren- Kennel Stormkappans. She imported 3 dogs, one male pup that arrived around christmas time 1973 -Wooleston Blue Jumbuc (The first ACD to be approved as a patrol dog), then one pregnant bitch in 1974 - AUCH Wooleston Blue Julie and in 1976 another male pup - Wooleston Jungle Jon (The first ACD in Sweden to pass the character test called Korning and also herding qualified, in a test called VP)

Jungle Jon was at 10 months placed at kennel Monstigen. All these three dogs came from, back then one of Australias leading breeders, Mrs Berenice Walters, kennel Wooleston. She considered it to be very important to keep the working
ability and concentrated on breeding good herding dogs with good exterior.

Her blue small dogs originated from Hall´s Heelers, that she mated with show ACD´s. Out of that combination she got some of the most prize winning dogs true times, like for example Aust Ch Wooleston Blue Jilaroo- he became Best Australian Working Dog at Sydney Royal Show three times and won Best in Show five years in a row! In other words a big fraction of our first swedish dogs are "workers", working herding dogs.

Out of the two first imorts there only was one offspring- KORAD Stormkappans Blue Jessica, she was later mated with the third import Wooleston Jungle Jon. This became kennel Bluey´s first ACD litter. The most successful one from that litter was Bluey´s Josephine- born 1978, she was kennel Lingras first Cattle Dog.

She became international and Nordic show champion, swedish obedience champion, KORAD and also competed in higher class tracking & dispatch. In addition to that she had four litters a total of 22 puppies.

In 1981 three more ACD´s where imported to Sweden. One bitch from Landmaster, Mrs C Redhead in South Australia, imported by kennel Monstigen. And one pair of siblings , brother and sister from kennel Swordstone- Mr M Dudding,England to kennel Lingras in Sweden.
In 1983 another male was imported by kennel Ligras from kennel Landmaster, the first red Cattle dog in Sweden.
Between the years 1987 - 2004 an additional 34 Cattle Dogs where imported from Australia, Germany Luxemburg, Belgium, England, Danmark and Norway.

Sweden was one of the first countrys in Europe to import Australian Cattle Dogs and as early as 1983 the first two dogs where exported to Danmark and Norway. Later on more dogs where exported to Finland, Germeny & Holland. A total of 44 dogs has been exported between 1983 - 2005. How many of these dogs thats been used in rearing is not known.

A mutual clubb for Australian Kelpie & Australian Cattle Dog was established in 1976 with Birgitta Östergren  as chairwoman.
Since august 2006 a separate clubb has been established for the Australian Cattle Dog - Svenska Australian Cattledog Klubben (SACK).

The breed has have many different usage in Sweden. Apart from the ordinary sports as search, tracking, dispatch and security, there have also been ACD´s competing in Agility, Freestyle and Obedience. We have also had dogs that passed as patrol & rescue dogs.
On shows we have had quite good participation.

There are about 10 kennels registrated on ACD in Sweden the past 10 years. The breed has never been a big breed in Sweden, about 20-30 puppies are registrated every year.
